Looking for the best tax consultants in the UAE? With corporate tax now in effect for all UAE businesses and VAT penalties increasing under Cabinet Decision 129/2025, the choice of tax consultant directly affects your business's compliance risk. The wrong pick costs you penalties. The right one pays for itself.
Here is what you need to check before hiring a tax consultant in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE — in 2026 and beyond.
UAE tax compliance has become significantly more complex. Since June 2023, every UAE business (with very few exceptions) must register for corporate tax, file annual returns, and maintain financial records for 7 years. VAT penalties were restructured under Cabinet Decision 129/2025, effective April 2026 — late registration now costs AED 10,000 and late payment accrues at 14% per annum.
In this environment, a tax consultant who does not understand UAE CT or uses outdated VAT penalty rates is a liability, not an asset.
The Federal Tax Authority maintains a public register of approved tax agents. Only firms on this register can legally represent you before the FTA — filing returns in your name, responding to audit notices, and appearing at the Tax Disputes Resolution Committee.
How to check: go to tax.gov.ae → Tax Agents Register. Search the firm name. If they are not listed, they are not FTA-registered — regardless of what their website claims.
Important: Many consultants and "tax advisors" in UAE operate without FTA registration. They can help you prepare documents but they cannot represent you if the FTA sends an audit notice or penalty. Make sure your tax consultant is actually on the FTA register before engaging them.
UAE VAT has been live since January 2018. UAE corporate tax has been live since June 2023. Both involve specific, UAE-only rules that international tax experience does not automatically transfer to.
Questions to ask:
A well-qualified UAE tax consultant will answer these directly. Vague answers about "extensive tax experience" without UAE-specific detail are a warning sign.
A legitimate tax consultancy firm in UAE holds a valid UAE trade licence for the relevant activity — either accounting, bookkeeping, or tax consultancy. Ask for:
Essence Accounting & Tax Consultancy is a licensed firm in Dubai (Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, activity: Accounting & Bookkeeping) and a member of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry since 2022. Our sister entity, Essence Business Services FZC, holds a tax consultancy licence in Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone.
Tax consulting engagements in UAE are often poorly defined. "We handle your tax" could mean anything from filing a VAT return to full annual compliance. Before signing, get clarity on:
Always ask for a written engagement letter listing every deliverable. Good tax consultants welcome this.
Google reviews from UAE business owners are the most reliable source of unfiltered feedback for tax consultants. Look for reviews that mention specific outcomes: "VAT audit resolved", "CT return filed on time", "smooth takeover from previous accountant".
Paid testimonials, case studies without named clients, or a complete absence of online reviews are all reasons to do more due diligence.

Book a Free Consultation →Go to the Federal Tax Authority website at tax.gov.ae → Tax Support → Tax Agents → Registered Tax Agents. Search the firm name. If they appear on the register, they are officially FTA-registered. If not, they cannot legally represent you before the FTA — regardless of what their website claims.
The most recommended tax consultants are those who are FTA-registered, licensed by a UAE authority, have demonstrable experience with UAE VAT (since 2018) and corporate tax (since 2023), and carry verifiable client reviews. Essence Accounting & Tax Consultancy meets all of these criteria — FTA-registered tax agency, licensed in Dubai, 500+ clients served, 5.0 Google rating.
While not legally mandatory for all businesses, an FTA-registered tax agent is strongly recommended for corporate tax compliance. Only registered agents can represent you if the FTA queries your return, conducts an audit, or issues a penalty. An unregistered consultant can prepare returns but cannot act on your behalf with the FTA.
Ask: Are you FTA-registered (and can I verify this on tax.gov.ae)? How many UAE corporate tax returns have you filed? Have you handled FTA audits? Is VAT filing included in your fee or charged separately? Who handles FTA notices and queries? What is your process for tracking my deadlines? A competent tax consultant will answer all of these specifically and confidently.
